Frequently Asked Questions

How long before I get my CPR card in the mail?
You will receive your card in 2 to 4 business days.

What will my card look like?
You will receive a high-security plastic certification card. (see a sample card)

What are the internationally accepted CPR standards?
Standards are based on recommendations from the American Heart Association (AHA)/International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR), which is what this course is based on.

Does this course teach the most current recommendations?
Yes, it is based on AHA 2010 Guidelines.

Are all CPR cards the same?
Not all programs are accredited. Our program is accredited by the National Board of Emergency Care Certifications (NBECC) and is based on the most current clinical recommendations from AHA/ILCOR.

How long is the certification good for?
Two years.

Do I have to complete the program in one sitting?
Yes.

How long will it take to complete the test and get my certification?
Most people complete the test in much less than one hour.

Who provides the “guidelines” for CPR?
The AHA states that it is its responsibility to communicate “guidelines” to the public. Formed by the AHA, the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) issues these guidelines in writing, and the AHA distributes them. According to the AHA, it does not take responsibility for reviewing or approving anything other than the programs it sells to the public. This situation has created certain misconceptions about the AHA’s role in CPR training. In fact, the AHA is a competitor in the CPR training market, not an accreditation operation.

Who accredits the National Center for Resuscitation Education (NCRE)?
NCRE is fully accredited by the NBECC. This accreditation body has issued tens of thousands of CPR, ACLS and PALS certifications since 1996. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., NBECC took over the operations of the ACLS Certification Board in 2008. By having programs accredited by NBECC, both professionals and the public can be assured that the most current national clinical guidelines and recommendations are being followed.
